Patient is moving to MIAMI

    Hi HIVS Community

I have a stable HIV positive patient, have been undetected for years, and currently on BIKTARVY. He will be moving to MIAMI in July-August. I thought I would try to ask if there is anyone here currently practicing in Miami or know anyone in that area?

    Thank you,
    Gryan

Best site that I use is glma.org to find providers.

The GLMA site is good for what it is but doesn't focus on HIV providers.  I checked the AAHIVM site and our info is incomplete and not up to date.  I recently tried to search for Ryan White clinics for a patient moving out of state and didn't get very good results either.  the HIVMA site has HIV providers, but is also not complete at all.    HIV Provider Directory.  General Googling for "find a HIV provider"  gets you tons of garbage.
We need a better consolidated, complete, website to help patients find expert, trained HIV providers!  Not sure who can take this on...

Thanks for your comments, @Elaine Thomas.

Referral Link is the Academy's attempt at being a comprehensive list of HIV care providers and it was originally supported by the CDC (but long before I arrived at the Academy).  However, like HIVMA's directory, it's an opt-in system, which means that individual providers are responsible for telling us they want to be on the list and also for keeping their info up to date.  Academy staff did a big push last year to try to clean up Referral Link and removed a lot of old records, so it's much better than it used to be.

It's not perfect, but it's still a valuable tool.

Referral Link is not limited to Academy members or credentialees.  Any provider who manages patients with HIV can have their name listed.  Everyone can help us make Referral Link more comprehensive by telling your colleagues about it and encouraging them to get listed.

And if you're reading this, now is a great time to check your information in Referral Link!  Navigate to the Referral Link Profile Update page in your account to check and update your information.  If you have any questions about Referral Link or your profile there, feel free to contact me directly on Academy Communities or via e-mail, dan@aahivm.org.  I'll be happy to help you update your information.

@Gryan Eroll Robles Garcia, I did a quick search in Referral Link for zip code 33101 and came up with 122 results.  Many are credentialed.  I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who can take care of your patient.

Thanks Dan, it's great to know the referral link is intended as exactly that resource for all.  Let's all make it better by encouraging HIV providers to include their updated info!

If you go to the Academy website to Referral Link, you can type in the zip code and all you will get names and contact info for HIV specialists in the area.

I asked a pt of mine to tell me where she used to go. I knew she was a peer navigator in Miami. She emailed me a brochure. Do you have an email I can forward to you?

To find a 'good match' for a particular patient, I like asking national speakers for their recommendations.  They have shared meals with HIV specialists around the country, and often have a sense of personalities (and offices) that might be a better match for a patient than just a zip code.   If I give them a sense of the patient who is moving, they usually offer options that I can relay with confidence.
