    Greetings!

     

    The Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Montgomery County, MD Chapter, are proud to announce a special event to provide insight on the history, development, safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine as it relates to African-American communities. On December 29, our highly respected panel of guests will provide all that is needed to make informed decisions about the recommended vaccination for both you and your family, as we continue to witness the federal efforts of a national roll out of the solutions dedicated to effectively reduce the negative outcomes of COVID-19.

    Join us as we launch our COVID Education Initiative with our first presentation: "The COVID-19 Vaccine and the Black Community", with special guests:

     

    Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett: Senior Research Fellow and distinguished African-American female scientist at the National Institute of Health, praised as a lead scientist in the development of the COVID-19 vaccine. At the onset of the global crisis, Corbett started working on a vaccine to protect people from the disease. Through her prior research and recent efforts, she identified a method to produce antibodies that protect against the effects of the coronavirus. In the words of Dr. Anthony Fauci, she "will go down in history as one of the key players in developing the science that could end the pandemic;

     

    Dr. Barney Graham: Deputy Director of the Vaccine Research Center and Chief, Viral Pathogenesis Laboratory and Translational Science Core that led the team of scientists at the National Institute of Health that were at the forefront of the development of the Moderna mRNA vaccine. His expertise and leadership in rapid vaccine development, technologies and manufacturing proved instrumental in expediting the COVID-19 vaccine and bringing it to market;

     

    Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick: President of Howard University, distinguished Charles R. Drew Professor of Surgery and a noted scholar and lecturer, Dr. Frederick served as Associate Dean in the College of Medicine, Division Chief in the Department of Surgery, Director of the Cancer Center, and Deputy Provost for Health Sciences. Dr. Frederick continues to operate and lectures to the second-year medical students of Howard University's College of Medicine;

     

    Dr. Wayne Riley: President of the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University. A distinguished physician, internist, academician, clinician-educator, and administrator, the institution that Dr. Riley leads is the only academic medical center serving Brooklyn, New York one of the most diverse communities in the nation. Dr. Riley holds the tenured rank of Professor of Medicine and of Health Policy & Management, serves as Chair of the Board of the New York Academy of Medicine, is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and is the former 10th President of Meharry Medical College.
