Hello all,
Is there anyone involved with med safety or anyone who would be able to speak to any "rules" or "alerts" that trigger when a patient is admitted to the hospital and ARVs are ordered?
For some context, I work within the ambulatory care setting but my clinic is hospital-based, so I'm fairly connected with the inpatient pharmacy team. There have been quite a few medication errors recently for patients with ARVs ordered - most recently an incomplete PEP regimen was inadvertently continued on admission when a patient was transferred from an outside hospital.
We are actively working on creating rules or alerts to fire within EPIC when there is an ARV ordered for a patient so these types of errors do not continue happen. Any suggestions or insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated as we work on next steps for our journey to zero harm related to the use of ARVs/HIV care.
Thanks!
