  • 1.  Clinic Check-In Process for STD/PrEP Walk-In Patients

    Posted 25 days ago

    Hello,
I am looking for different ways to make check-in seamless for those that are coming into the clinic as walk-in patients wanting STD testing.

We are otherwise mostly a scheduled appt clinic.

We have tried several different ways to make it as discrete and comfortable as possible for patients, but are looking into bettering this process if we can.

For example- we've talked about a tear off flyer at the front check-in window that a patient could take a tear off from and hand to the front desk staff so they don't have to say they are here for STD testing out loud. There are concerns, however, that no one would see/read the flyer prior to checking in or that others in the waiting room may see them tearing it off.

I am curious how others are doing this that has been working best, or if anyone has suggestions?

    Thanks.

I heard about an ED using a QR code to complete a survey ("STIckER") about STI screening, where the patient show's the RN/MD their screen once completed. Here's an article about it: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12683500/

How about a tear-off sheet for everyone who enters the clinic, on which they circle the reason for their appointment?

I was thinking an idea would be that you have a small laminated sheet that EVERY patients gets that lists the top two concerns they want to address at their appointment today and they turn it in after they write that down.  if one is STI, then you alert your staff via teams that you have a walk in test.

At my OB/GYN they have a tablet that every single patient completes a short survey on which includes reason for visit and any concerns- it is then automatically uploaded to the record and it is flagged if there is anything sensitive like STI screening etc.
