Dear Colleagues,
Our interdisciplinary team received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study a pilot implementation strategy integrating long-acting injectable HIV PrEP (LAI-PrEP) into two clinical settings in the Midwest.
What are we asking of you?
We are recruiting 45 prescribing physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists to participate in brief 20-30 minute semi-structured interviews online about implementing evidence-based, biomedical HIV prevention into clinical practice. We will also ask you to complete a brief survey to collect demographic and other data about your medical practice.
Who is the study team?
This study is being conducted by faculty within the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health at the University of Minnesota and the Center for AIDS Intervention Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Steven A. John, PhD, MPH is the PI of this study. Co-Investigators include Andrew E. Petroll, MD; Katherine G. Quinn, PhD; and Jennifer L. Walsh, PhD.
What health issue are we addressing?
HIV incidence continues even with the availability of highly effective, evidence-based methods of treatment and prevention, and recent advances have extended HIV treatment and prevention beyond pill-based dosing strategies. LAI-PrEP could have a unique role in HIV prevention and likely has high consumer demand, but few patients are currently receiving cabotegravir for LAI-PrEP so far. LAI-PrEP has potential to reduce disparities in PrEP use among the most vulnerable, indicating the importance of identifying barriers and facilitators to LAI-PrEP implementation in the U.S.
Why are we interviewing prescribing providers?
As part of the formative phase of this study, we want to understand important lessons learned so far about LAI-PrEP implementation to help guide our local efforts, as well as identify ongoing barriers and facilitators to LAI-PrEP in the U.S.
Will I receive anything for participating in an interview?
Participants will receive a $100 e-gift card as an honorarium.
How do I get scheduled to participate?
