    Hello all,

In talking with colleagues and with recent graduates now on the job hunt, it seems there is a lot of variability in how clinics allocate time for HIV visits. I think it would be interesting to see some data about just how much variability there is, but if such a data set is out there, I haven't found it.

If you're willing to contribute, I've made this survey with just a few multiple choice questions. It's anonymous and doesn't ask you to identify your clinic.

What an excellent and interesting question. 30 mins minimum.

I completed the survey but will quickly note that thanks to Ryan White dollars I was able to justify with our administrative group 60 minute new patient and 30 minute follow up visits

We get Ryan White dollars and I have 20 minutes for new and 20 minutes for follow up and sometimes my new 20 minute is double booked

    love that question.

we used to get 45 minutes for a new pt; now we get 30 minutes for a new and old patient but there is talk about cutting that down to 20 minutes for an old pt - I dont know how much time for a new one.   30 minutes for an old pt is sufficient but not 20 minutes.

If there is a questionnaire - I am happy to complete it.

    Thanks for posing the question.

40 minutes whenever possible for new patients to me (whether they are newly HIV infected or not); 20 minutes for follow ups. If pt is also my primary care patient, they get a 40 minute annual physical each year that can double as an HIV visit. All this said, it's important to succeed with the HIV care continuum and always make adjustments to access rules so that linkage to care is not negatively impacted by a long wait for an initial appointment slot. Some sites get around this, for example, by having HIV nurses perform intakes ahead of a clinician appointment; but others might override schedule templates or double book occasionally to make sure HIV patients needing to be seen get an appointment in a timely manner.

My routine visits are 15 min. For new diagnosis those are same day started and just get added into my schedule or the NP's schedule. It's just the two of us. For new to our clinic routine visits I get 30 min, though new PreP are just 15 min unless they are also coming to us for primary care. We serve a large rural area so many PrEP or PLWH will have PCP close to home.  Our NP is new to HIV and currently her visits are all 30 min. Though we can request longer visits for higher needs patients.
