Professional Bio

Dr. Hsiao had been the Medical Director, "Positive Health Clinic (PHC)" of Allegheny Health Network at Pittsburgh, PA from 2013-2023. He also is one of key faculties for the infectious disease (ID) fellowship program and involving in-patient ID Consult Services at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US. He graduated from Taipei Medical University in 1984. He studied Microbiology at Medical College of Ohio during 1986-1989. Then, he completed Internal Medicine Residency (1989-992) and ID Fellowship program (1992-1995) of University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York. Since 1995, he had been one of UB ID faculties till 2013. Since 1996, he has maintained his ABIM board certified status in both Internal Medicine and ID. He had provided teaching and care to patients with HIV and other ID related issues at the university affiliated Erie County Medical Center (ECMC; 1995-2000 & 2004-2013), Buffalo General Hospital (BGH; 2000-2004) and Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI; 2000-2004). At ECMC, he also directed HIV/HCV co-infection program. Through his previous experiences at ECMC, BGH and RPCI, he has been expert in managing ID issues in general, HIV and solid organ/ marrow/stem cell transplant recipients. In past 25 years, he has been the Principle Investigator for at least 50 clinical trial protocols that mainly involved antibiotic, vaccine and antiretroviral drugs development. With collaboration of his UB colleagues, he had heavily involved in HIV genomic and proteomic research in HIV pathogenesis and aging. Through above academic activities, he has published numerous journal articles, abstracts and text book contributions.  He has invested his personal time in HIV and infectious disease mentoring and lecturing outside of United States, especially in China and Taiwan, since 2005. He led UB medical students for the “Global Health” at Capital Medical University, Beijing in 2013. He has been involving “AIDS Free Pittsburgh” and "Hepatitis C Elimination Task" since December 2015. He had been an Associate Professor of Medicine prior he came to Pittsburgh, PA. Currently, he has been a Clinical Professor of Medicine through Temple University and then, through College of Medicine, Drexel University and providing his services and teaching at AGH.  He has received award for excellent teaching in 2001 (UB), He has been elected to be Fellow of Infectious Disease Society of America in 2011. He received Buffalo Health Care Top 50 award in 2013 and Castle Connolly Top Doctor Since: 2007 and featured in Pittsburgh Magazine: 2021, 2022 and 2023.
